A strong application to the wrong fund scores zero. Eligibility work is not admin — it is the first strategic decision of the campaign.
Writing is the visible part of a grant application, so it absorbs most of the effort. But an application's ceiling is set before a word is written, by whether the fund can support this project at this stage in this territory.
Eligibility is published, and it is specific: format, stage, budget band, spend requirements, nationality of key creatives, prior credits. Reading it properly removes most of a long list quickly.
The remaining names deserve a second filter — what the fund actually supported in its last two cycles. Stated priorities and awarded slates are not always the same document.
Only then is writing worth starting, because at that point every hour goes into an application that can win.
