Selected Project Work

Each entry sets out the project, the approach taken, the work completed and where the project currently stands. Nothing beyond that is claimed.

The Project

An environmental feature developed by filmmaker Peter Gartner, with material in place and no agreed route between the funding, producer and territory options open to it.

Approach

Begin with what the project could credibly claim at its current stage, then research the funding and producer landscape around it before any approach is made. Territory questions were treated as research rather than assumption: what a UK–Canada structure would require, and which elements of the project could realistically travel.

Work Completed

  • Funding strategy covering the routes available at the project's current stage
  • Producer research across companies with comparable environmental and documentary-adjacent credits
  • Producer targeting, including approach framing and order of contact
  • UK–Canada co-production research covering requirements, conditions and partner profiles
  • Project positioning work on how the film is described to funders and producers

Current Stage

Ongoing project work with a focus on funding strategy, producer research and industry positioning.

  • Funding strategy
  • Producer research
  • Producer targeting
  • UK–Canada co-production research
  • Project positioning

How I Think Through a Project

A demonstration of methodology, not a success story.

Development

Strategic question

What needs to happen next to move the project toward financing and the right producer?

What I looked at

  • Producer fit
  • Funding pathways
  • UK and Canada co-production potential
  • Project positioning
  • Industry targeting

Why these matter

  • Producer fit can influence which financing options are realistically open to a project, because funders assess delivery capacity as much as material.
  • Co-production considerations can change the funding landscape available, since each territory carries its own requirements and conditions.
  • Project positioning matters before funders or industry partners are approached, because it decides whether they can place the film at all.

Strategic priority

The next step identified was research led: establish the producer profile the project needs and the funding routes open at development stage, then decide the order of approach. No outcome is claimed beyond the work completed.

Additional project work will be added as engagements develop. Much of the work stays confidential until a filmmaker chooses to share it.
